Markets make me happy
December 21, 2011
I was recently in Amsterdam visiting my brother… I love that city. He took us to this farmers market which happens weekly on a Saturday in the Jordaan. This fungi stall was breathtakingly beautiful and the smell was so tantalising. As well as amazing markets (including a flea market also on Saturdays weekly), the Jordaan has some beautiful boutiques and restaurants, and is definitely one of my favourite Amsterdam places to visit. You can read about its history here http://www.amsterdam.info/jordaan/. Maybe we will bump into each other there one day. x
Sri Lanka magic
December 5, 2011
Hello you, its been a while! We have been a travelin. Sri Lanka was very special, i thought I would share some with you. Temple water lilies that I could smell from our hotel balcony, toast that took my breath away, small creatures that warmed my heart and lots more sights that lit up my eyes and brought a smile to my cheeks. x
happy birthday blog you are 1 year old
August 26, 2011
I’m not sure if there is anyone who reads the blog that doesn’t know us… however I thought for the granny flat’s 1 year birthday I would give you a little picture of our lives here including some things that we don’t have but might one day, like a boat and a dog. Thanks heaps for reading, you make me happy. x
Pekho
July 20, 2011
On Fremantle’s Wray Ave a new shop has popped up. Where once there was a laundromat now there is Pekho, a beautiful shop bustling with carefully selected ‘wear + wares’. Sourced from South Africa, Shine Shine makes a big impression when you enter the store from Obama aprons to madonna cushions. These homewares are an awesome gift idea….or if you’re like me you will want 1 of everything and they may never make it to someone elses hands! Pekho is also the name of the clothing label carried in the store, designed and made in WA by the shop owner Buffy Murray. I have bought clothes designed by Buffy before…. its the kind of garment you can’t stop wearing and people always comment on how great you look kind of thing… gotta love that! Oh and did I say they have large sizes! There is also a beautiful range of frocks for little people aptly named Pekho BOO, very pretty fabrics with gorgeous trims. In addition there are beautiful artworks and hand dyed cushions by WA’s Jac Harley and some lovely handmade felt objects and furnishings by Kietsu. Buffy has also selected some of my jewellery for the store which I am very excited about, thanks Buff! All this and much more Pekho is a very welcome addition to Wray Ave, a great place to shop for something exceptional and homegrown.

Up at Leah’s place
May 18, 2011
I am so excited to announce the opening of Leah Tarlo’s new shop ‘Up’. This long awaited emporium is a melting pot of new and old treasures all housed in the mezzanine level of a beautiful High St shop ‘Cocoon’ located in Fremantle’s west end. Tarlo is a jeweller, collector and curator of curios. The tiny shop will amaze and inspire so if you’re free this Thursday the 19th between 6 and 8pm be the first to glimpse ‘Up’s wares and rub shoulders with its friends.

the circus by Brian Wildsmith
May 16, 2011
over the weekend i was lucky to find this beautiful book. with only two lines of text this book is really a picturebook. illustrator Brian Wildsmith comes from yorkshire in northern england, not too far from where i am from. the stunning colour in his illustrations are a stark contrast to the part of the world that we come from. this particular copy was printed in 1970, i had a quick look online and couldn’t find any current prints so if you like the look of it you will have to hunt for an old copy. you can see more of Brian Wildsmiths books here at his website http://www.brianwildsmith.com/ . thanks for brightening up my day Brian i love ‘the circus’.
in the studio
May 15, 2011
i love being in the studio at the moment. i was excited this weekend to have 3 lovely lady visitors there, and it may have been audrey’s very first foray into the arts being only the tender age of 8 weeks! while she didn’t make much to speak of she definitely impacted on the artistic energy in the room, thanks audrey!
i thought i would share a few things ive been working on over the last year or so. for some time now i have been transfixed by concentric circles and other mandala like forms. this week i was excited to find a book with an ancient bark painting from Sulawesi that depicted concentric circles in the most beautiful colours. so it’s circles everywhere for me… and for now i’m working on some vegetable print mandalas, but more about those later.
